Aloha! As a senior member of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, I am looking forward to today’s hearing, Catastrophic Preparedness: How Ready Is FEMA for the Next Big Disaster?, that will examine the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) preparedness for catastrophic disaster.
I plan to ask FEMA officials to evaluate the agency’s ability to respond to a potential disaster in Hawaii, tsunami preparedness and response efforts, and the need for a well-trained FEMA workforce to effectively carry out the agency’s mission.
Witnesses include, FEMA Administrator W. Craig Fugate, former Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Richard L. Skinner, and William O. Jenkins, Jr., Director, Homeland Security and Justice Issues, U.S. Government Accountability Office
If you are interested in watching the hearing, it will be webcast live today, Thursday, March 17, beginning at 9:15 a.m. Hawaii time.
