Talk Story with LA Democratic Party Chair

The Maui County Committee will host a talk story with Los Angeles County Chair and California Democratic Party Vice-Chair Eric Bauman who is on Maui vacationing. The talk story will be held on Monday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the ILWU Local 142 Hall, 896 Lower Main Street, Wailuku.

He will let us know about the inner workings of the LA Democratic Party and the California Democratic Party, the political landscape in California (they have a very competitive U.S. Senate race) and how he views the national landscape with the upcoming presidential election.

This event is open to all members.


Eric C. Bauman has served as Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party since 2009 and is in his seventh term as Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, the largest local Democratic Party organization in the nation.

Under Eric’s stewardship, the LA County Democratic Party has been twice awarded Campaigns and Elections Magazine’s Reed Award for the “Best Automated Call,” and has received 18 Pollie Awards from the American Association of Political Consultants in categories as diverse as Social Media, Vote-by-Mail, Video, Direct Mail and Automated Calls. LACDP is the only local political party in the nation to receive such honors.

In 2015, Eric rose to number 20 on Capitol Weekly’s Top 100 – one of only a handful of people chosen who are not based in Sacramento.

Professionally, Eric is the Senior Advisor to California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and the Director of the Speaker’s Office of Member Services – Los Angeles (SOMS-LA).

Prior to joining the Speaker’s office, Eric held various senior-level positions in California Government, including serving as Senior Advisor to Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez, Senior Advisor to Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, Deputy Insurance Commissioner – overseeing the Community Relations Branch of the California Department of Insurance and as Special Assistant to Governor Gray Davis and Director of the Governor’s Los Angeles Regional Office.

Eric is a Registered Nurse with graduate education in Health Care Administration. He spent many years in intensive care and trauma nursing before moving into hospital administration. In 1991, Eric co-founded a health care management consulting firm, Consultants in Nursing Services Administration, specializing in the administrative, staffing and information system needs of hospital nurses.

He is a member of the NARAL Pro-Choice Privacy PAC, is the Vice Chair of the LA County Insurance Commission, is the Lead Chair of the California Democratic Party’s Organizational Development Committee and is on the advisory board of the Medical Reserve Corps of Los Angeles and the LA County Voting Systems Assessment Project Advisory Committee. Until recently, he was on the board of Glendale Memorial Hospital and the Latino Coalition Against AIDS.

Eric lives in North Hollywood with his husband of many years, Michael.
